Do you want to keep your independence and stay in your own home?
Step 1. Discuss your needs, if you can, with your family and friends. In the first instance they may be able to help. If that is not a viable option contact your GP.
Step 2. Your GP will arrange an assessment of your needs. Normally and Occupational Health nurse will do a home visit to make an assessment of your needs and decide what equipment, and, or, help that you may need.
Step 3. Equipment will be delivered and the OT will show you how to use your equipment safely. And any care visits will start.
Funding for these services depends on your medical need. If you need home care for social reasons you will need to fund the visits yourself. The NHS is responsible for funding certain types of healthcare equipment you may need. In some situations the NHS is responsible for meeting your health needs, see here:
