In 1950, Stratton House was a run down nursing home capable of housing just five patients. Under the care of MHA, who took it over in that year, it has grown to its current capability of 33 residents. Originally designed for women only, the first matron of Stratton House was quoted as saying: “We are all women in the house, except for the grandfather clock – and he doesn’t give us any trouble.” The grandfather clock still stands in pride of place in the main hallway. By the later 70s the home had 28 residents, many of them over ninety. In the early 80s further development was undertaken, creating the elegant and calm environment that exists today.
