The government's universal state-backed insurance system to help fund care is to be welcomed, says Laurence Kelly, creator of the care and retirement website Ostrichcare.co.uk
"It is long overdue, but at last paying for care will be fairer, simpler and more logical. Currently care fees vary greatly, it is totally unfair that what elderly people receive in public assistance depends entirely upon where they live: it is the ultimate postcode lottery at the heart of what should be a much more caring system", says Kelly, who created Ostrich to help and advise those looking for both care and seeking ways to finance it.
"Finding and paying for care is so complicated", says Kelly. "I faced huge difficulties at just 21 when I was looking for care for my grandmother: that's why I created Ostrich.
